I’ve been working in IT for over a decade now. I’ve been a casual government worker, an open-source linux chick who was laid off during Ottawa’s dot-bomb, a hard-core php developer, a project manager, and an entrepreneurial contractor. With a certain amount of chagrin, I will shamefully admit that I have never considered writing about the technical part of my life. I suppose I thought it was less entertaining than all of my road adventures, and I certainly haven’t had the time to travel to Tijuana and write about my tequila experiences while also writing copious amounts of code and blogging about it.

In a technical nutshell: My ideal development environment is LAMP, although I’ve been known to dabble in .NET from time to time. I am focused on standards compliance and Web Accessibility. I have a fun little sandbox where I test new features on my CMS software, and occasionally share them with other people when I’m feeling generous.

I’ve attempted to mold myself into some sort of “General Specialist” in IT, but I think it’s actually time to (finally) select a specialty. I think the open source world has won out – I’m going to order the materials and study for my Zend Certified Engineer exam. How difficult can this be? I was once able to memorize about 200+ plants, their Latin names, and their properties. Memorizing something I actually use on a semi-daily basis should be somewhat less difficult!
