Before the holidays, the fantastic conversation with the very charismatic CEO from California who extolled the virtues of Flex to me and mentioned the high demand for skills in this area

My partner, considering looking to use it for the next iteration of his product

My sister, mentioning that it would be a great asset to their company

Enough said. I need to learn Flex.

I’m getting excited about the upcoming holidays, mostly due to the sheer fact that I will have copious amounts of time… at least in comparison to that which I’m used to. While many people think about the holidays as a chance to relax with a mug of mulled wine in front of a roaring fire, I am chomping at the bit to get further along in a number of my projects, and to start some new ones – with the mulled wine, of course

On my radar for the holiday season:

Start studying for my Zend Certified Engineer exam

Build something (useful?) with Flex

Do some brainstorming with my fantastic partner in terms of things that we can collaborate on

Build a Flicker-esque (albeit somewhat less intelligent) gallery for my road trips site and my air trips site

Do some easy (and complementary) SEO work for one of my favourite clients

Finish a couple of small PHP projects that I would like to get off my radar, and have the major health app I am working on about 90% complete

All of this would make for a Merry Christmas indeed. Come the end of January, I hope to find myself drinking Tequila in Tijuana or lying under a palm tree somewhere exotic and looking for geckos.

Last week, I wrote a bit on my introduction to Flex, and both John and I are interesting in learning this development platform. Now, php is my developmental language of choice, which has naturally lead me to AMFPHP – an open source implementation of AMF (Action Message Format). It allows client applications to communicate with PHP server objects which, in turn, return the data to the client and provides a solution with regards to type casting between ActionScript and PHP.

This sounds pretty good. Even better – if I could actually think of something useful to build!

Friday eve, I had a fantastic conversation with a very charismatic CEO from California who extolled the virtues of Flex to me and mentioned the high demand for skills in this area. Although I was distinctly non-plussed by his idea of a job opportunity in Kentucky, I was quite intrigued by the pearls of advice which I absorbed from the conversation. Although I consider myself a PHP lady first, there isn’t much else I can accomplish in the PHP world after I obtain my ZCE. Therefore, a new language, new fun. Programming, to me, is like an intangible / adult version of lego™. You get to built sh*t, fun s*it, cool sh*t – making sure all of the pieces fit together as snugly as lego™ bricks.
